Everyone dream about a beautiful house. A house with a beautiful garden, beautiful lawn etc. Many people also dream about a swimming pool, and their dream is complete once a swimming pool is added to their house. A swimming pool is a symbol of status, but it is also very unsafe for small kids under the age five and old aged parents. Like fire death, drowning is also a leading cause of accidental death in the home, and it happens more in warm climates like Florida, Arizona & California etc.

Approximately more then 500 drowning occur in the swimming pool. These things are happen when children are unsupervised for a long period & parents discovered them later, when it was too late.

Maximum children drown under swimming pool are with in the age of 6 months to 5 years. Some children drown either in their own pool or in a friend's pool. Other reason of drowning is lack of supervision, either no supervision or poor supervision and due to the absence of barrier around the swimming pool. Some of them made victims while learning swimming under the supervision of their parents. Maximum drowning cases lead to death, even when they don't loose their lives it leads to serious brain injury.

What swimming pool owners to do to protect their children and others?

First of all teach your children about swimming lessons as soon as possible, it doesn't matter weather you have a swimming pool or not. Because sometimes use their friend's swimming pool. If it is not possible for you to teach then request your local parks and recreation department to teach your children about the swimming lessons.

Build a strong fence around the pool & the fence should be 6 to 8 ft tall. Always go for a tall fence. A tall fence always provides extra safety & security. Your neighbors may comment about your tall fence, don't listen to them. Build a broad fence around the pool & make sure it doesn't contain any holes. Kids like to look through into these holes. Keep the gate of the pool closed when it is not used.

If you are entertaining your family friends around the pool . Don't let your children to go near the swimming pool, don't keep the toys near the pool because it may go close to the pool to take the toys and fell into it.

When you are leaving your children under the guidance if a baby-sitter or a caretaker, you should be more careful. Don't allow anybody to use the pool while you are going out, keep the gate of the pool closed. Provide a cordless phone to your baby-sitter when she is watching your children outside. If the phone rings instated of going inside she can pick it there. In this way your children always be under her supervision.

In winter season swimming pool should be covered properly, it should be strong enough to resist the weight of your child.
